Numerous examples Maori lore and traditions in English have been translated to Maori in this book to advise on and simplify the "double vowle" usage common in the native language, as well as the correct punctuation. The object of the book, to use words from Bruce Biggs' introduction, is to "make for immeasurably easier reading than is usual with written Maori." There are 50 translated examples in the book, ranging over most aspects of traditional Maori life. These were sourced mainly from the Journal of the Polynesian Society, the writings of S Percy Smith, Maori Affairs Department publications as well as a number of other publications. Also includied is what is described in the introduction as a "remarkable unpublished manuscript in the Grey collection of Maori Manuscrips at the Auckland Public Library." First edition of 1967 from Reed. 156 pages, illustrated with numerous b/w sketches, mainly by S M Mead. VG brown/yellow hard covers feature a Maori carving to front, unobtrusive soiling to both boards, former owner details top front pastedown, internally excellent although numerous marginal notes and symbols appear, mainly in the front third of the book, light foxing to page edges as closed. This small, light item posted at cost. N° de ref. del artículo 004834
