Come See Where Jesus Lived by Barbara Brady was published by the Strathmore Co., Aurora, Illinois, in 1954. Not an ex-library copy, this approximately 6 3/8" X 8", 58-year-old, 18-page offering is in G condition. In overall still sound physical shape, there is some yellowing of text's pages, the original(?) young owner's name is written, in firm pencil, in the proper spot on the inside of the front cover board, and, FINALLY, the "coated film" which is/was used to erase the "magic slate" is extremely brittle, so much so that if you just look at it in a threatening manner, or any manner whatever, it breaks off in little pieces/strips! At age 58, I'd have been shocked and surprised if such was not the case regarding the slate's "eraser". From reverse side of front cover, "Magic Slate--story book activities [featuring] three wonderful, exciting ways to play--all in one book. .Because ancient Israel looked so different from modern America, children sometimes think of it as a storybook land, instead of a real place. This book helps to make the country Jesus knew real to [a] child. Besides the story of Jeanie and Robb and their trip to Nazareth, you will find pictures and puzzles to use with the Magic Slate. Activities in this book may be re-used, time after time, by child after child." NO, the Magic Slate is not functional, so, NO, the activities are not re-usable, but the extremely readable informative story(whether by, or to, young ones) is the focal point of this publication, anyway, Reader. And, said story is beautifully complemented by the page-by-page Drawings of one Ray Chatton, pictures/puzzles executed in single primary colors--red, blue, green, or orange--each in combination with white and various grays. Interesting, vintage slice of Americana, circa the mid-Fifties, of one strategy to present Jesus as a living, breathing person in the minds of their children, perhaps struggling a bit to wrap their minds around the enormity of Christ's being/message/purpose while on earth.
