Descripción:

Folio. Unpaginated (12pp). Printed wraps as issued. Numerous Black & White collages. 1000 copies published, though most were pinned on walls or destroyed. In superb condition with only a little wear to corners and covers. No pin holes or writing. Linder Sterling and Jon Savage's 'The Secret Public' could be one of the most important pieces of publishing from the punk/new wave period. Published as New Hormones no.2, no.1 being Spiral Scratch by The Buzzcocks. Linder of course is mostly known as the person behind the Buzzcocks' Orgasm Addict sleeve and her work for Factory records, and Savage as the author of 'England's Dreaming'. In retrospect the groundbreaking images first seen in the Secret Public are central to the narrative of Punk/Post Punk and the Manchester scene. Jon Savage: "I now think that The Secret Public wrote its own script. It was a deliberately hermetic document that forced you to enter on its own terms. There were few concessions to any ideas of marketing and accessability. Hearts were not worn on the sleeve. It fully explored its dichotomies: cool designed outer images covering angry, savage montages, women placed in bondage but by their own design (or is that in itself a product of internalised oppression?), metropolises that offered opportunity and excitement at the same time as they ate you alive. Its impact was qualitative rather than quantitive: perhaps this is why, at its best, it has not dated at all.". N° de ref. de la librería

Descripción Boo-Hooray Gallery, New York, 2010. Loose Contents in a Portfolio. Estado de conservación: As New. First Edition Thus 1/40. Twelve 17 x 12" loose sheets of heavy stock, silkscreened in b&w recto only + two loose 11 x 8 ½" xeroxed flyers laid into an 18 ¼ x 12 ¼" silkscreened chipboard portfolio, profusely illustrated in b&w. Printed by Keegan Cooke at X Blank X Press. Limited to forty copies only, this is the super-cool portfolio published in conjunction with the Johan Kugelberg curated 2010 Boo-Hooray Gallery exhibition of the punk-era collage/montage work of Jon Savage and Linder Sterling. "Jon Savage is the noted author of "England’s Dreaming" and "Teenage". Linder Sterling is a visual, performance and installation artist represented in the Tate permanent collection. Jon Savage and Linder published the art fanzine "The Secret Public" in Manchester during the first month of 1978. It was the second New Hormones product - catalogue number ORG 2 after the Buzzcocks' already iconic "Spiral Scratch" - and was distributed through Rough Trade and other independent outlets. This was followed by the portfolio "Mixed Media Montages" published in late 1978. Some of these images originally appeared as flyers and as posters for the Buzzcocks, Joy Division, Magazine and Factory Records circa 1977-1980". This luxe publication reproduces in a far more elegant format the twelve original photo collages from the 1978 original as full page silkscreens, each numbered in the lower right-hand margin and SIGNED in pencil by Jon Savage on the six images of his own artwork, as issued. A brand new, pristine NUMBERED (32/40) example. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase. Signed and Numbered by the Artist Jon Savage. Artists Monograph. Nº de ref. de la librería 022893
