Sinopsis:

This book is excellent for youth and high school coaches who are looking for ways to "build better women and men" as it will encourage you to learn more about Coach Joe Ehrmann's InSideOut Coaching. And for those coaches who are familiar with Joe's work, this book is an excellent guide as you work to implement Joe's approach in your program.

From the Author:

I am a volunteer football coach with approximately 14 years of experience as a head coach in youth football (Junior Football League; JFL) and as an assistant coach for a high school program in central Illinois.

The pages that follow detail my experience as a coach in both roles trying to implement Coach Joe Ehrmann's "InSideOut" coach-ing philosophy. The purpose is not to tell you how to coach. My objective is to give you a personal overview and relay the story of my coaching staff's journey. You may run into to some of the same obstacles (potholes) that we did, and maybe a look at someone else's experiences will help you formulate a plan. There were several times during the season when I thought, "Man, I wish I could talk to someone who really tried this."  That is why I wrote this book.

I will give you some background as to how I came across Coach Ehrmann and how I started on my own path. I'll tell you about the reaction of my fellow coaches and then look at our Season of Change and will close with a summary--an action plan if you will--along with what was the most important takeaway for me after the completion of my first Season of Change.

Who should read this book? Anyone with an open mind to new ideas and particularly coaches who have read Jeffrey Marx's book Season of Life and Coach Ehrmann's book InSideOut Coaching or those who have heard Joe speak and decided to put his words into action. I happen to coach my son and I can assure you that Joe's approach helped me be a better coach for my son. Who won't read this book? The guy who has all of the answers. He does not need to hear Coach Ehrmann talk about the importance of loving his players. This guy's program is successful; he has no interest in Joe's message, because he believes what he is doing is working.

Truth is, that particular coach may need to hear Joe's message, but his heart is not ready.  So if your program is winning championships and running on all cylinders: Great! Buy copies of Season of Life and InSideOut Coaching and remember where they are in the bookcase, because someday you will be ready.

My ability as a coach has increased exponentially as a result of working with Coach Ehrmann. Keeping a journal during last season and then putting those experiences down on paper, has also helped expand my coaching toolbox. My hope is that what follows helps  another coach.

I would like to thank my wife, Dana, for allowing me to pursue my passion. I would also like to thank  my JFL staff coaches for their patience, enthusiasm, and support as we worked through our Season of Change.

One last point: this book was written before Coach Ehrmann had published InSideOut Coaching, so much of what you will read is based on my reading Season of Life and hearing Joe speak. However, I have updated the last section of this book to include my thoughts on the extra benefit of having Coach Ehrmann's book, InSideOut Coaching, as another tool in your kit.

It's hard to believe that 14 seasons have come and gone. I have been fortunate enough to be associated with teams that collectively won around 75 percent of their games.

Going through this process made me reflect on all of those campaigns. Which year or season would I say was our best? Read on!
