The Modern Library first published this title in 1928. The book itself first appeared in London, published by Duckworth in 1912. Fine in Good+ Dust Jacket. The Text Block is clean off-white, tight, straight and square with no markings of any kind. Possibly Unread as some pages at the back of the text block are unopened. Rockwell Kent endpapers. Binding is Toledano Style No. 8, with full green linen cloth boards (uniform color throughout), with dark green topstain and black and gilt title, etc., with torchbearer, on both front and spine, and all corners square and sharp. The Dust Jacket is intact, with wear to head and heal of spine, minor soiling at rear fold, and numerous tiny tears discreetly closed from behind with archival (pH neutral) materials, and with original price (95 cents) showing on front flap and echoed on rear panel. See photos. Ten page introduction by Christopher Morley, and eight pages of advertising at back of text. x + 332 + viii pages. 4 7/8" x 7 1/4". Considered a classic of the travel genre, some of the Duckworth publications carried the following very descriptive subtitle: "Being the Narrative of the Voyage of the Tramp Steamer Capella from Swansea to Santa Maria De Belem Do Grao Para in the Brazils, and Thence 2,000 Miles along the Forests of the Amazon and Madeira Rivers to the San Antonio Falls; Afterwards Returning to Barbados for Orders, and Going by Way of Jamaica to Tampa in Florida, Where She Loaded for Home.
