Poem first published 1853 telling of poor Oxford scholar who roams the world with the gipsies to learn their lore, and who still haunts the Oxfordshire countryside. Unpaginated - 80 leaves printed on one side only. Title-page with vignette and decorative upper & lower borders, text with decorated initial capitals printed in two colours and decorative borders; 10 tipped-in colour plates including frontispiece, and 10 illustrations in sepia monochrome, all within ruled borders above which decoration and beneath which extracts of verse; pictorial endpapers. Original light blue cloth gilt. Backstrip and substantial parts of covers darkened to deep grey-green; gilt at backstrip faded, gilt at front cover dull. Backstrip also a little rubbed & nicked at head & tail; hinges with a little wear at heads & tails, otherwise lightly rubbed. Cover edges lightly rubbed, outer corners a little worn. No dust jacket. Edges of text-block toned, top- & fore-edges also with handling & other markings. First few and final few leaves of contents spotted, contents elsewheres lightly & sparsely so; illustrations unaffected.
