Acerca de

At a time when savings and loans, savings banks, and other savings-based institutions are faced with extraordinary changes, it is important to understand the niche this industry has occupied and the way it has functioned over the years. This significant contribution to the understanding of the operation and management of thrift institutions contains thorough treatment of:
- The roots of modern-day thrift institutions.
- The development of federal and state regulations as they affect those institutions.
- The present status of thrifts- existing regulations and operating procedures.
- The changes that have occurred as a result of supervisory mergers and elimination of branching barriers.
- The conversion process- particularly the new federal liberalization permitting such conversion.
- The problems of the industry-- substance, solutions, prognosis.
- The strengths and weaknesses inherent in specialized banking. Franklin H. Ornstein is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Central Federal Savings FSB of Long Beach, New York, a federally chartered savings bank with assets of over $750 million. He is a member of the Thrift Advisory Council of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, and has served as Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, Chairman of the New York League of Savings Institutions, and Director and Vice President of the National Savings and Loan League. He is an Associate Professor in the School of Banking at Adelphi University, Chairman of the New York Higher Education Services Corporation, and former Chairman of the Board of the New York State Council on Economic Education. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School and New York University Law School, Mr. Ornstein is a former partner in a New York City law firm that specializes in representing savings and loan clients.
