A bright solid copy in a similarly bright and intact dustjacket (now protected under mylar cover) bearing the original $2.50 price at bottom of front flap. The copyright page bears no printing or edition number indicating a first edition from this publisher at year of publication. Boards have noticeable scuffing along top edge, minor scuffing to bottom edge and a little shallow bumping/creasing to spine extremities but overall are solid, colorful and well preserved in a bright dust jacket with a little creasing at top of spine, a very small missing piece (1/8 x 1/8 inch) at foot of spine and some shelfwear at edges. Textblock is in beautiful condition with no markings , creases or tears. Bemelmans' brilliant illustrations bright and colorful. Another wonderful tale by the celebrated author and illustrator of the Madeline books, this story of a children's music school in New York touches on social issues as well, and is profusely illustrated in beautiful colors with Bemelman's trademark artistry, humor and empathy.
