S.I., s.n., [.], 1944. Small oblong 4°. (36x26 cm.). Original coloured chequered cloth covered boards, original cord through spine. 13 original monochrome photographs, all (except 3) captioned in white ink in dutch, mounted on 13 limp leaves. Photos measuring 17.5x12 cm. and taken by a professional photographer, a member of the NICA Batallion, shortly after the defeat of the japanese occupying troops in the Dutch Territory of New Guinea: Lieutenant Muller in the company of Papuan Women; Lt. Abdoeravai at Biak, Tanah Merah Bay supervises the reconstruction of a local Papuan village school; Nurses in the company of medical officer check upon a wounded Papuan Boy; 6 photographs featuring the cultivation of rice and Soeroendeh situated on Japèn Island; Papuan citizens of Kota NICA, Hollandia entertained by a music performance; Lt. Manuputy with a group of Papuans standing in front of a school at NICA Kota, Hollandia City. WITH the original private presentation card, 85x60mm., of Dr. J. Victor de Bruyn, (better known as "Junle Pimpernel), printed in Australia District and NICA (Netherlands Indies Civil Administration) loosely inserted. After the Japanese invasion of the Dutch East Indies, including the territory of West Niew Guinea de Bruyn stayed at his posting at Lake Wissel. He formed a small group of men and supplied intelligence about japanese troops to NEFIS in Australia. After the occupation of his post in 1943 de Brun and his men vanished into the Jungle and marched under very difficult conditions to Mount Hagen and was picked-up by a Cataline on lake Hagen and transported to Australia. Commemmorative Photo-Album illustrating the activities of NICA Batallion posted on Dutch New Guinea in 1944 shortly after the defeat of Japanese occupying troops. Excellent professional photographs.
