Descripción:

210 [10] pp.; numerous illus. from drawings by George Franklin Arbuckle, OSA, PRCA; index at rear. D.w. shows wear, tears at t.e.; bit of dust-smudging at corner of b.e., else a lovely copy. A "survey of native cultures of Canada just before (the arrival of the Eurpoeans)". London, Canada's Selwyn Dewdney is one of the great figures of the 20th century no one has heard of. Most famous for discovering & charting the Ojibwe rock paintings of Agawa Bay on Lake Superior as well as other important sites, he also, along with his wife Irene developed the practice of art therapy for psychiatric consumers in Canada. He also left a notable body of paintings & drawings & wrote widely on a variety of subjects, including books for children & two critically acclaimed novels (which didn't sell well). The illustrator, Frank Arbuckle, born too late to be considered a member of the Group of Seven, nonetheless studied under more than one of the founders & married the daughter of another member. He was among Canada's reigning commercial artists ca. 1930's - 1970's & his canvasses still command good prices. Size: Oblong 12mo. N° de ref. de la librería 001765
