"Comprising Lucas, Scissons, Turney, Turgeon and parts of Burke, Rhoades, Huston and Landing Creek Townships in Gregory County, South Dakota. As you peruse these many pages of history that are humorous, tragic and brave, alive and real, do so with imagination, love and humility. These men, women and children dared to brave the wilderness; they faced the challenges, perils, hardships and dangers found in conquering of the last great frontier. They have built what we have today! "So easy as it has come to us, so easy it may go." These events cannot all be validated. Discredit not these facts of adventure and courage; danger and privation; love and success. They opened their doors, hearts and minds, and together we journeyed into yesteryear. "The web of life is hard, complex, but marvelously entwined." I have delved deeply into the memories of these homesteaders and pioneers for the information secured for this manuscript and they gave freely. Time has passed and memories may have faded, but to the best of their ability this is the information and the data recalled by them and told to me of the years gone by," (Foreword).
