Ely[ Eli ] Bates ( circa 1744 - 1812 ) was a respected author, one of the founder members of the Eclectic Society , and secretary to Sir George Saville. First published in 1803 to much praise The Christian Observer, Vol II, 1803, page 495 comments - ' We entirely agree with the author of this excellent work, that there exists at present a lamentable want of rural philosophy, or of that wisdom which teaches a man at once to enjoy and improve a life of retirement . To correct this inward disorder is the professed object of the author before us, an object certainly of the most important kind, and extending in its use far beyond the particular case of those who are living in rural retirement . '. The second work was published anonymously but possibly written by Rowland Hill ( 1744 - 1833 ), preacher and brother of Sir Richard Hill, he published a pamphlet in favour of vaccination, and number of sermons and hymns. It is a remarkably rare publication, the Library Hub Discover ( on-line 3/23 ) does not trace any copies. OCLC FirstSearch ( on-line 3/23 ) locates only one copy in the USA - University of Wisconsin, Madison, Genaral Library. N° de ref. del artículo 000602
