8vo., First Edition, endpapers very lightly spotted; original pale blue buckram, upper board and backstrip elaborately blocked and lettered in blind, gilt top, covers moderately age-faded else a very good, tight copy. R D ARCHER-HIND'S COPY WITH HIS NEAT SIGNATURE DATED TRINITY COLLEGE CAMBRIDGE 1900. The front paste-down bears the early twentieth-century bookplate of St. Felix School, Southwold, where his copy formed part of the Silcox Bequest. Richard Dacre Archer-Hind (1849-1910), outstanding Greek scholar and Platonist, and Fellow of Trinity College Cambridge (1873) is best known for his definitive 'Phaedo of Plato' first published in 1883 and many times reissued. Among his many other works are Timaeus (1888), 'Sabrinae Corolla' (with Henry Holden, 1890), 'Cambridge Compositions' (1899) and 'Translations into Greek Verse and Prose' (1905).
