Binding a little loose and shaky. Quite heavy rubbing to cloth boards and spine. A 1 1/2" split and a 1/2" split to the cloth in the front joint. 3/4" loss of cloth along edges at corners of boards. There are a couple of 1/2" areas and a 3/8" area of rodent damage to the fore edges of the boards. Rear hinge broken. Some dampstains to rear endpaper. The smaller folding map in the front pocket has a 3" tear along one fold. The larger folding map in the pocket at rear has a large 6" tear along one fold, and some smaller 2" tears and some 1" chips along other folds. One fold also has some dampstains. Owner's signature and address (Alfred Paul Herring, Cape Foulwind" dated 1940 on first leaf of preface and on first leaf of the introduction. A good working copy of the third edition. ; xviii, 487,  pages +  pages advertisements + folding colour frontispiece map + 1 folding colour map in pocket at front + 1 folding colour map in pocket at rear. Red cloth boarsd with gilt illustration on front board. Dimensions: 210 x 137mm. "Having once resolved to go to Central Asia, the next question was how to execute my intention.
