HOWES B-1013. Sabin 9434. Tompkins 87. Burr was the third Vice President, serving under Thomas Jefferson from 1800-1804. Jefferson did not place Burr on the 1804 Presidential ticket. In 1805 Burr killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel. After the duel, he went west in 1805. The Burr conspiracy was in part a plan for Mexico to overthrow the Spanish rule in the Southwest. Burr and his associates, General Wilkinson and Harman Blennerhassett stood to gain a land dynasty in that region. Wilkinson betrayed Burr's plans to Jefferson. In 1807, Jefferson issued an order for Burr's arrest for treason. The trial started 3 August, presided over by Justice John Marshall. The trial was a major test of the Constitution. Burr was later acquitted at trial. Size: 8vo. N° de ref. de la librería 1001421
