FIRST EDITION. 154 pages; rebound in brown full leather with raised bands and gilt lettering on the spine. This was Wallace Stegner's regularly published first book for which he won the Little Brown Prize which included a $2,500 stipend. It was a literary and financial success and helped him get a position at Harvard. Wallace Stegner (1909-1993) taught at Stanford University where he created the creative writing program.
