Sinopsis: Reconnecting Youth: A Peer Group Approach to Building Life Skills is a research-based prevention program for reaching youth who are at risk for dropping out of school. The program uses a school-based, peer-group approach to enhance protective factors and reduce risk factors that are linked with adolescent problem behaviors in general, and with adolescent drug involvement specifically. The Reconnecting Youth program design includes tested school-based models for preventing drug abuse, school dropout, depression, and suicide behaviors among high-risk youth. The program involves partnerships among school personnel, youth, and parents, and addresses the effects that psychosocial risks and protective factors have on adolescent development within family, friendship, and school contexts.
About the Author: Leona Eggert has worked for more than 20 years with adolescents, their parents, and teachers, and is currently the Spence Endowed Professor in the Psychosocial and Community Health Department at the University of Washington, Seattle.
