Rab and the Unhappy Owl by The Tischlers was published by the authors in 1947. Not an ex-library copy, this approximately 8 3/4" X 12", 65-year-old, presumed-to-be First Edition offering is in G condition. The book, which undoubtedly has undergone countless handlings/perusings over its rather lengthy life time, is still holding up nicely, physically speaking. It is bound in an early version of plastic wire, in two, 2 3/4"-long sections of same, one towards the tops of the cover boards, and the other equidistant from the bottoms of same. There are some brownish spots, all located in the upper-right quadrant of front cover board, and a scrawled signature that looks sort of like, I swear, the authors' name. It looks so natural there I cannot tell if it was actually there when the book went to the printers, or if it is actually the scrawled name of a previous owner(this is my first encounter with The Tischlers, Reader). Fairly modest shelf wear is observed at the top and bottom edges of "spine", and also at the four outer tips of cover boards. There is, too, a rather mild, 1 3/4"-high, vertical crease, from the bottom edge up, on the front cover board. THE MOST OUTSTANDING FEATURE of this over-sized, slender volume, in my opinion anyway, are the frequent, charming Drawings, done in various combinations of charcoal, beige, and, sometimes, a curious, lovely greenish-turquoise, and several of which cover the full page. The story itself concerns a clever, resourceful, but, above all, friendly little boy, Rab, who provides aid and assistance to a very, very sad owl. Mr. Owl's low spirits are the result of his lack of singing ability, compared to the various, beautiful melodies put forth by the Scarlet Tanager, the Red-Breasted Robin, and the Nightingale. There is, we learn, a big concert coming up to welcome the coming of Spring, and the owl wants so much to participate and contribute to this always joyous event. I'll let you discover on your own, Reader, just how a saxophone impacts the delightful story line of this rather unusual children's book. Thanks very much!!. N° de ref. de la librería 005787
