New York 1972, Praeger, 2nd US printing hard bound in dust jacket, VG/VG cond. ( light dj wear), 6 1/4 x 9 1/2. xix, 628 pp, 30 operational maps, bibliog, index. -------------------------------------------------------------This is the first full-length analytical study of the Russo-German War of i94i-45 to cover the whole course of the war as seen from both the Soviet and the German side. Albert Seaton sets out the causes of the war, the political developments leading to its outbreak, and the roles played by Hitler, Stalin, Churchill, and Roosevelt. The political and military organizations of the Wehrmacht and the Red Army and of the German and Soviet high commands are presented in detail; without such information, the subsequent military operations could, at best, be only imperfectly understood. The course of the war as well is described on its many political and military levels: the decisions taken in the map rooms in Rastenburg and Moscow, the relationships between Hitler and Stalin and their respective staffs and generals, the actions and reactions of the higher field commanders, and, finally, the war as seen through the eyes of the fighting men, the Red Army soldier and the German Landser.Particular attention has been devoted to an examination of the higher conduct of war by the two dictators and to the changes in structure of their high commands. Coverage of air and naval operations and the economic aspects of the war fills out the author's account, and, from time to time throughout the book, the fighting on the Eastern Front is fitted into context against the background of the whole of World War II.This work has been compiled in consultation with learned authorities in Britain and Germany. Its sources include Soviet histories, Russian and German memoirs, accounts, maps, and published and unpublished German files, war diaries and documents. N° de ref. de la librería 37177
