FULL TITLE: Remarkable Antiquities of the City of Exeter: Giving an account of the Laws and Customs of the place; the Offices, Court of Judicature, Gates, Walls, Rivers, Churches, and Immunities; The titles and Privileges of the several corporations and their distinct coats of arms finely engraven on copper-plates: With a catalogue of all the bishops, mayors and sheriffs, form the year 1049 to 1677. 2nd edition. 213 pages followed by "A Table or Index of The most Remarkable things contained in this Book, alphabetically digested.Originally collected by Richard Izacke.Now very much enlarged, and continued to the year 1723, by Samuel Izacke. To which is added a new and correct map of the said city, with a prospect of the cathedral, curiously engraven on copper-plates: and the Fremman's oath both honary and Common'. The fold-outs comprise the prospect of the Cathedral (pictured) and "a new and correct" map of the City. Neither of these maps have any damage or repairs. Two coats of arms - bearing the mottoes "Florescat" and "Semper Fidelis" appear on the page preceding the title page. The interior is bright, clean and unmarked. Tight binding. Inside the front cover is a b/w previous owner's bookplate and there is a small neat signature on the first free endpaper under which is written in the same hand "Exeter School,19/7". Wear along the leather spine with short splits at edges at top and base. Paper covered boards with rubbing and wear as seen in the photo. Size about 19 x 12 cms. A very good copy indeed for its age.
