Descripción

The subtitle reads in full: 'Description in detail of the boundary between the British Protectorate of Sierra Leone and the Protectorate of the Republic of Liberia as it runs from the river Makona (K) or Moa (M) in the north to the river Magowi in the south: together with the list of the cairns erected and other marks to identify the same. ' 15pp., foolscap 8vo. Stapled. In fair condition, on aged paper, with staining from staples. Small grey rectangular stamp at foot of first page, completed in manuscript: 'West African | 95 | Fo 2'. In two columns throughout: the left-hand column giving the description of the boundary, and the right-hand column listing the cairns. The first entry in the left-hand column reads: 'The boundary starts on the left bank of the river MAKONA (K) MOA (M) at the point where the DUNDUGBIA stream flows into the MAKONA (K) MOA (M) from the south-east - from thence the boundary proceeds up the centre of the bed of the DUNDUGBIA to where the PE YE flows into the DUNDUGBIA on its left bank:'. The first entry in the right-hand column reads: 'No. 1 cairn in the centre of the DUNDUGBIA 3X from where the DUNDUGBIA flows into the MAKONA (K) MOA (M) a [character] on a Fa (K) Gogbwe (M) tree 6X to the west on the British side and a * on a Bewuo (K) Mundwe (M) tree 10X to the east on the Liberian side of the cairn.' On p.13: 'All names have been spelt in accordance with the rules laid down by the Royal Geographical Society, London.' Signed in type at end by Cowie, Lee and Hart, variously at Baiama, Tungi Lele, Mount Aureol and Freetown. The only copy on COPAC in Manchester, erroneously dated to 1915.
