Portrait of the famous French explorer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle (whose actual lifespan was 1643-1687 according to the Encyclopedia Brittanica) holding a manuscript document describing in French how "Louis le Grand" established "la Louysiane" in the United States. Decorated with a Coat of Arms and a map of America decorated with a draped cloth, and focusing on the Mississippi River, together with Florida (Floride), Alabama, Louisiana (Louisiane), Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Texas and Arizona. The map is illustrated with charming vignettes of sailing ships, indigenous fruits, birds and wildlife including alligator and bison, and a native American on a horse. Condition: Generally very good with the usual light toning, wear, soiling, soft creases. One tear well into margin, professionally restored, and a few short marginal tears and creases, can be matted out. A rich impression. To view detail, contact us. N° de ref. de la librería 000077

Descripción de la librería

George Glazer opened his art and antiques gallery in 1993, and since the beginning the emphasis has been on the themes of exploration and discovery as embodied by globes, prints, maps and art. The gallery's unusual ambiance reflects its owner -- scholarly and intellectual, but with an eye for the decorative and a sense of humor that revels in the offbeat. Featured items include: Antique World Globes -- huge selection; floor and table, terrestrial and celestial, orrerys and armillary spheres. Maps - - 19th C. American maps and atlases; celestial charts. Prints and Paintings -- botanical, bird, sporting, maritime, fashion and costume, architectural and horses. Books -- leather and colorplate.
