Small square 8vo, pp [4], [4], 109, [1], [6, John Bell catalogue], lacking half title, bound in in contemporary unlettered quarter calf over marbled boards, a little rubbed and worn but sound, but with large early ink stain on upper board, free endpapers removed, early pencil drawings to lower paste-down, early deleted inscription to title page [?Badgworth Court], else internally sound and tight throughout, FIRST EDITION; despite the caveats above, a reasonably good copy in original state of the firrst of this hugely popular conduct book, based by John Trusler upon Chesterfield's work of guidance for his son. In its first year of publication it was reprinted no les than five times by Bell, pirated in various forms, includign several Dublin printings; it later coaught on in America, and proved, one assumes, somethign of a money-spinner for the business minded educationalist John Trusler who had capitalised on Chesterfield's name to his own advantage.
