Acerca de

Written by St. Joseph Cafasso, a close friend and mentor to St. John Bosco, this book is a collection of conferences on the identity and mission of the priest; that he is another Chrst and a "sign of contradiction" to the world. In these meditations, Cafasso exhorts priests to remember that the dignity of their calling is higher than that of all other callings. Cafasso, though figted with a great intellect, successfully converted many soulsto the Catholic Faith beacuse his own life was conformed to the highest ideals of holiness which he studied from his youth. In these conferences he emphasizes the necessity for priests to strive with all their might to themselves achieve the habit of virtue in order to have any effect on the souls under their care. "The Priest: The Man of God" is a clear outline of the nobility and duties of the priest and a marvelous instruction guide on how priests can realize this dignity and excel in these duties, so that they truly becaome a light to all men. This book is a wonderful resource for priests, but it also gives the laity a clear appreciation for the power and singularity of the priestly vocation.

About the Author:

St. Joseph Cafasso (1811-1860) was born into a peasant family and with a deformed spine. He was crippled throughout his life. Ordained to the priesthood in 1833, he was appointed Professor of Moral Theology at the ecclesiastical college in Turin in 1836 and Superior of the college in 1846. Two years later, he was named Pastor of Saint Francis Church. Throughout his life, St. Joseph promoted devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, worked to reform prisons and their inmates, and was a renowned confessor. He was also a friend and advisor to St. John Bosco, who later wrote a biography of Cafasso. Bosco said, "A single word from him-- a look, a smile, his very presence-- sufficed to dispel melancholy, drive away temptation and produce holy resolution in the soul."
