This set of four first editions are bound in matching leather with simple gilt edge lining, bordered raised bands and volume number to the spine. The leather is old and tired but the spines bear it most significantly, with vertical cracks, rubbing crackling and loss to the heads. Corners have been bumped and rubbed back to the card, the edges and surfaces of the boards have some fair but not excessive rubbing and cracks are forming in the leather of the hinges. Internally, the pages are lightly foxed throughout but generally clear. In addition:Volume 1 has a gouge in the leather at the base front corner, the front board is split through the leather and held tightly by the threads of the binding. Partial splitting to the rear. Pages vii to x are detached as a group but present.Volume 3 has a split front hinge which is weak and held by the threads, the rear hinge is split but held tightly by the threads. There is some small worming to the bottom corner edge in the early part of the book that manages to avoid the text almost completely. One hole spans the majority of the pages.Volume 4 has both hinges split and weak, held by the threads. There is a gouge in the leather of the front and the rear top corner is a little mangled.Volume 5 has a rear board that has split and is held by the threads fairly securely, the front hinge has a small split to the top and a 5cm split at the base.
