A hardbound book, measuring about 7-3/8" wide x 10" high x 2" thick, in brown cloth boards. Paginated to 852, however, some front matter might have been omitted in either the original or reproduction, as the earliest page number is 19, and is preceded by a title page, a one-page Preface, and some blank pages. Titles in gold leaf on spine. Reproduction copy by Unigraphic, 4400 Jackson Avenue, Evansville, Indiana 47715, printed 1973. Binding by Modern Pre-Binding Corporation, Portland, Indiana. The first major section of the volume is 90 pages dedicated to "Portraits and Biographies of the Presidents of the United States," covering each, from the first to the twenty-third, with a portrait, facsimile signature, and two-page biography. The bulk of the work is 738 pages containing the portraits of some and biographical sketches of all those who participated in the project. This would appear to be one of the many "subscription histories" popular at the time, telling the story of these two Indiana counties by way of individual life story sketches. The final section is a four-page Index, divided into Biographical, Portraits, and Views. This should prove essential to the user, since the sketches do not appear in alphabetical order. Condition is generally excellent, with no observed markings or damage, except for something unknown on the upper right corner of the front free end paper, covered by a white label.
