Descripción

This heft 770 page historically important and rare collection of amatory verse, being an increasingly well respected and energetically applauded offering it is proudly presented with great and well deserved hubris by Hirschfeld Galleries in the publishers original binding. Said binding being full ebony cloth with gilt tiles and spinal decorations. Book is rock solid, tight, and clean, save for some quite moderate and inconspicuous bumping to corners and spine ends. Edited by Thomas Robert Smith, (1880-1942) Editor of Boni and Liveright, and contemporary of H.L. Mencken,Theodore Dreiser, and Ernest Hemingway. Says Editor Smith, "This work in its present edition completes the plan that I set for myself, to issue a rather selective, yet, a fairly comprehensive and representative collection of amatory verse in English, different in character from the usual love poetry that is printed in Anhologies. My purpose was to select only such verse from the long line of English literature, original and in translation, that had already established itself in print, and only such poety which possessed charm, passion and humor, avoiding the merely vulgar and obscene. The work is issued in a limited subscription edition so that it may possibly not reach the over-fastidious or the course-minded ones who secretly admire what they pretend to dislike. The poems contained herein range from the earliest time to the present [1927] and the names of the most distinguished poets of the past and present will be found in the contents. " Editor Smith explores dispassionately all sides of this controversially chosen subject matter, and we at Hirschfield Galleries hope that only those who similarly read and contemplate with an objective mind would yearn to become the next caretaker of this seminalogic work. This book has the four absolute uppermost qualities we at Hirschfeld Galleries since 1931 have always sought in books: 1) excellence in content, 2) literary quality, 3) appealing design, and 4) significance of contribution. Another great altruistic offering opportunity for us and an even greater opportunity for self-actualized reception on your part. But enough of the lugubrious however allegorically wise jaw-jacking, enough said of the telluric parameters of select Hirschfeld Galleries' offerings such as this one which take on a life of their own and speak so very loudly for themselves. Read to learn and enjoy; go forth to share and enjoin. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. N° de ref. de la librería 006380
