Descripción

Four line poem handwritten and signed by poet. Written on a 5" x 3" card which has uniform slight age-toning. It reads "And when the far Five Sacred Mountains rose; Rotund and almond-eyed, his slightest nod; Opening a fiery earthquake on his foes; Then sate in state the Jade Imperial God." Following this is written "from 'The Great White Wall' [signed] William Rose Benet April 24, 1937." Brother of Stephen Vincent Benet. He associated as editor or assistant editor with Century Magazine, Literary Review of the New York Evening Post, and the Saturday Review of Literature (which he helped to found in 1924). He won the 1942 Pulitzer Prize for his 1941 work "The Dust Which is God." His 2nd wife was poetess Elinor Wylie. William Rose Benet (1886 - 1950). An attractive example, suitable for framing.
