Octavo (202 × 132 mm). Contemporary marbled calf by Charles Septier, titles gilt to spine, double fillet roll to board-edges gilt, all edges gilt, four-line rule to turn-ins gilt, marbled endpapers. Housed in a marbled, cloth-lined, leather-entry slipcase. Small cataloguing note neatly tipped in to first blank. A fine copy. Vignette title-page printed in red and black, red initials throughout. First and only edition, privately printed at the Chiswick Press after designs by Herbert P. Horne, the architect and art historian who "in the early 1890s designed several books combining elegance with self-conscious archaism" (ODNB). Belgian poet and critic Destrée was "a great Ruskin admirer who would translate parts of Seven Lamps of Architecture … and examined the contribution of the [Pre-Raphaelites] to the decorative arts, which was rarely discussed by francophone critics" (Dixon, ed., Twenty-first-century Perspectives on Nineteenth Century Art, p. 250). A rare work in any state, with only four copies traced in British and Irish institutional libraries, this copy immaculately preserved in a superior French binding. The Norman Colbeck Collection of Nineteenth-Century and Edwardian Poetry and Belles Lettres, vol. I p. 38. N° de ref. de la librería
