[4] pp., single sheet folded to 10 x 6 in., printed on three sides. "The PLOUGH [founded in 1917] is a Club which has been formed for the purpose of stimulating interest in good art of an unconventional kind. Its object is to present dramatic, musical and literary work of merit and originality" (from the prospectus). Works of the Symbolists were represented, including those of Belgian poet Émile Verhaeren. Music recitals featured works by Holst, Debussy, Ravel and Stravinsky. According to the prospectus, persons who expressed interest in membership included Granville Bantock, Clifford Bax, Havelock Ellis, Ambrose Heal and Ernest Rhys. With a small note in ink stating the date of receipt as 17 Dec 1917. Included with this prospectus is a later broadsheet announcement (8 x 13 in.) from the club listing committee members, inviting membership, as well as a tentative listing of activities for 1918; with contemporary ink notation inviting interest. Prospectus printed by the Pelican Press, the collaborative venture operated by Francis Meynell and Stanley Morison. Plough Club materials that survive are quite uncommon. Overall, these items are well-preserved, each with a couple of folds (presumably to enable mailing); some age-toning around prospectus edges, with a small smudge and faint traces of dustiness.
