Plotting and Writing Suspense Fiction by Patricia Highsmith was published by The Writer, Inc., Publishers, Boston, in 1966. Not an ex-library copy, this 5 1/2" X 7 3/4", 46-year-old, 149-page, believed-to-be First Edition offering is in VG/G- condition. This book is in firm/sound physical shape, very well-preserved for its 46 years, with only some modest yellowing of endpapers front and back as well as the pages of text to needlessly cry about. The dust jacket, however, no doubt due to having done its job so very effectively, shows more wear. Although from end to end, generally, it looks really decent, there were 5-6 random spots where I clear taped to shore up/repair smallish tears, and there are two, irregular pieces/portions of bottom edge of back cover section missing/torn away(measuring approximately 1 1/2" long X 11/16" at the highest point, and 1/2" long X 1/2" at its highest point. Too, the top corner of the front inside jacket flap has been price clipped. From said front inside flap, "This stimulating and unusual book presents the essentials of suspense fiction and shows how a writer can use these techniques in plotting and writing successful novels and short stories. [The author], who has won wide recognition as one of today's outstanding suspense writers, analyzes the vital elements of suspense in fiction--surprise, coincidence, speed, and the importance of stretching the reader's credulity almost to the breaking point. .[This book] shows how to organize experience, record emotional reactions and responses, and write with conviction. It is a practical and readable book that will help all writers of fiction to practice their craft with greater enjoyment and greater success." Presented in twelve chapters, some of the aspects/chapter titles explored and discussed include "The Germ of an Idea", "Development", "Snags", "The Revisions", "The Case History of a Novel: The Glass Cell", and "Some Notes on Suspense in General". If you are in need of some serious tips/pointers regarding, perhaps, an ongoing writing project you're trying to bring to its conclusion, or perhaps thinking about initiating same, this primer on writing suspense fiction may actually be the device to help you clear the final hurdle cleanly, Reader. Or, maybe you just love and admire the author's work, and have wondered how she goes about doing what she does so adeptly. Thanks!!. N° de ref. de la librería 005391
