Descripción:

Color aquatint with added handcolor, plate mark 18 3/4 x 14 3/4 inches on sheet 21 1/2 x 16 3/4 inches. Remains of adhesive tape at upper edge of verso from previous matting (not visible from recto), a couple of tiny foxed spots in margin, light toning to margins (just outside platemark)from previous matting. There is some fading to the color, but this is still a striking image. This exquisite print is from the first, folio, edition of George Brookshaw's lavish production "Pomona Britannica; or, A Collection of the Most Esteemed Fruits at present cultivated in the country; together with the Blossoms and Leaves of such as are necessary to distinguish the various sorts from each other." This magnificent work of 90 plates was published in 1812, although the plates are dated between 1804 and 1812, having been issued in parts over that period. The plates were printed in color by the aquatint process, with some stipple, and then highlighted with handcolor. This plate (number 30) is a lovely image of three peaches, each with a leaf and blossoms, with a two tone background showing off the printer's skill. N° de ref. de la librería
