Descripción

In Red cloth covered boards with good black titling to the spine and black titling with black decoration on the front cover ( A Fan-Tail Pigeon and a 'Lop-Eared' Rabbit). The covers are sound but have some 'rubbing' and a lot of light (brownish) spotting/patching from old poor storage, but all hinges tight and the covers are a good colour - considering. The page fore-edges are 'dusty', slightly browning and have a few marks. Internally - Advert endpapers, a little edge stained and lightly browned. No Inscriptions or Marks. The book is divided into two sections - with 2 Separate Title pages. 'Pigeon-Keeping' with a black and white wood engraved frontispiece consisting of 2 images of Pigeons. (4) + 94 pp. Illustrated in the text with a couple of b/w illustrations/diagrams. Followed by - 'Rabbit-Keeping' = (2) + 57 pp. Illustrated in the text with a few b/w illustrations/diagrams - including an amazing Gazebo-like 'Rabbit Pit' - which combines a Rabbitry and a Pigeon House! . At the end of the book is a suite of 7 full page plates (b/w / wood engraved) with 2 images to each consisting of 5 of Pigeons and 2 of Rabbits. Followed by 4 pp Publishers books then - as at the front - 3 Advert pages (including the rear pastedown). There is no date on either of the title pages but the last Advert carries the date 1885 and underneath this the publishers note ".5/11/85 ". Also at the top of the Adverts is the legend "Routledge's Railway Library Advertiser [Third Issue] ". A delightful period 'country/animal/farming' book. The book unusually even includes chapters on "Young Pigeons for eating - how to fatten them" and "Cooking Rabbits"! . "English and French Ways of Cooking Pigeons and Rabbits". This book has a few faults (to the covers) but Overall is a Clean and Tight copy of an early and fascinating book. Images available on Request. ; Routledge Railway Library; 16mo 6" - 7" tall Unknown but possibly a Third Issue in this combined form?. N° de ref. de la librería 112907
