This illustration depicts the history of the Spanish-American War. It was made by George F. Cram in 1898. There are eight drawings showing the entrance to the Harbor of Havana, an American Marine, Philadelphia City Troopers cleaning their camp, Sunday Afternoon Visitors in Camp, a side view of one of the Twelve-Inch Mortars, the "Texas" in a Fight, Bread & Coffee, and a Torpedo Drill on the Cruiser "New York". unbound. Map. Lithograph. Sheet measures 17 1/2" x 25 3/8". This map beautifully captures the detail and density of Philadelphia as it was in the 19th century. The map includes a portion of the Delaware River in the lower southeast corner of the city and with various ferry routes noted. Other highlights include Fairmount Park, Franklin Creek, and Pettys Island. On the verso there are maps of Kansas City, MO and St. Joseph, MO. In good condition, closed tears to lower margin not near image. After serving in the Union army, George F. Cram (1842-1928) joined his uncle's map business and later established his own engraving and publishing firm in Chicago in 1869. This is an excellent example of his color lithography.
