Descripción

Phebe Fairchild: Her Book, Story and Pictures by Lois Lenski, was published by Frederick A. Stokes Co., New York, New York, in 1936. This 75-year-old, 312-page, 5 1/2" X 8", thought-to-be First Edition offering is an ex-library copy in just G- condition. It's a crying shame that because of some random light staining/spotting on both front and back cover boards, and a couple minor tears in the cloth of the book's spine(although neither tear actually exposes the cardboard beneath the cover cloth), I was more or less forced to rate this book so low, condition-wise. Otherwise the overall impression I get of the book is one of general soundness. The only other issues seen are some library markings, some modest yellowing of pages of text, fairly noticeable shelf wear at top and bottom edges of volume's spine as well as some less noteworthy wear in random spots along length of same(some one clear taped smallish top portion of spine to secure/keep wear from worsening). From summary strip attached to front loose end page, "Phebe Fairchild: Her Book [is] a story that moves to the gay and satisfying rhythm of a Mother Goose rhyme, though it is a truthful and absorbing narrative of life in Connecticut in 1830. Phebe travels alone by stagecoach from her home in New Haven to spend a year with her country cousins, while her sea-captain father has taken her mother on a long voyage. Through the many adventures of that year and her struggles to keep her greatest treasure--a beloved book--she learns to understand her father's parting advice, 'You'll need patience and courage a-plenty, but do as you're told and NEVER BE AFRAID." And, as always, the book is punctuated with the charming, black and white, line-type Drawings, as well as Chapter Decorations, done in the familiar style of the author. I just realized, thinking of my above description of this Lenski book's condition, that I've never once actually seen and handled a Lois Lenski book that was in really great shape, no doubt due to the number of eager, young hands these books are bound to pass through as the years stretch onward in the lives of said books! Thank you very much!!. N° de ref. de la librería 005245
