(TATE, ALLEN). PROVENCE. From Minstrels to the Machine By Ford Madox Ford. Illustrations by Biala. Octavo, tan cloth, 371 pages. The dedication copy, inscribed by Ford Madox Ford to Allen Tate and Caroline Gordon on the half-title page: "The dedicatrix &/ dedicator to the dedicatees/ with all love from Biala/ - Ford Madox Ford/ New York April MCMXXXV." The printed dedication page states: "To Caroline Gordon. and to Allen Tate who came to Provence and there wrote to 'That Sweet Land'. F.M.F. and B." Allen Tate is mentioned in the published text (see index of Provence which cites Tate appearances on eight different pages). Provence was published in late March of 1935, a few days before this dedication copy was inscribed for Allen Tate and Caroline Gordon. Rear hinge shaken, covers warped, spine lightly frayed at crown, light dampstain on top edge, slightly affecting very top margin of a few pages of text; just a good copy in very worn and chipped dust jacket. One page of text has a pencil note in margin, in unknown hand, but possibly that of Allen Tate. First edition [Harvey A74a; 3350 copies printed]. N° de ref. de la librería 39952
