Vol.1: xvi+292, v.sl.foxing to pastedowns, which also have sl.rippling, intermittent top corner creasing, usually faint; Vol 2.: iv+268, much as Vol.1, pastedown foxing a tad heavier, few sm.breaks in paper to fr.end-gutter. Both have 1812 sig. of Elizabeth Paton top t.p.s. Boards have attractive wave-effect textured cloth, both tight and clean but rubbing to corners, joints and, though only slightly, to sp.ends, though lower sp.Vol.2 also a little surface rubbed; good gilt-on-black gilt-bordered labels & gilt Vol.numbers, all edges blue-speckled, top edges sl.dust-darkened. A very acceptable copy of this work, with its inspiring chapters on Happy Deaths and Cultivation of a Devotional Spirit alongside cautionary ones on Mistakes in Religion and Self Love. Worn and discolored front and back end-papers and free end-papers, with large crest label and one small bookseller sticker present on front end-paper. Some very light foxing on several pages throughout and wrinkled or torn page edgings have created uneven fore-edge and lower page edgings. 298 pages. Volume II is in fair considering age, with wear, fading, and some staining present on covers. Wrinkled and stained spine is bumped and torn at foot and header and has some tearing or wear along spine hinges and on spine label. Bumped and worn corners on both covers and tearing along lower edge of back cover. Worn and discolored front and back end-papers and free end-papers, with large crest label present on front end-paper.
