First editions, 8 issues bound into 2 volumes by Sotherans of Sackville St, London. The original blue card covers are bound in at the rear. Hardbacks, with leather title labels to spine, top edge gilt. Each: 22.5 × 14.5cm. V1: 274pp + covers. V2: 264pp + covers. These are the first eight issues of The Oxford Point of View, edited and founded by Compton Mackenzie (here as Montague Compton Mackenzie) when he was up at Magdalen College. There were four issues a year, and ten were issued in total, running from February 1903 to November 1904. These copies run to issue 8 (November 1903). They consist of a series of poems, essays, letters and book reviews by undergraduates. There some early poems by Mackenzie (which must qualify as some of his earliest printed material). The brief book reviews include Edward Thomas' Horae Solitariae and Childers' Riddle of the Sands. There are two letters from Robert Bridges on the Pronunciation of Latin. The essays include politics and the ambitions of Germany in the wake of the South African war, and a piece on ghosts by the wonderfully named Renee Jacoby-Windall. This is a scarce set, at present the copies I can find are held in libraries. Condition: A good solid set but with a little wear. The cloth binding is in good order but volume two has some lifting to the sheen of the board and there is slight scuffing to the boards. Internally, the bindings are secure but these would have been individual issues, there is occasional marking and staining to the pages. It's never severe but should be mentioned. There is also light foxing to the endpapers and page edges. PLEASE NOTE: This item is heavy and will require extra postage. PLEASE SEE THE COX AND BUDGE WEBSITE FOR FURTHER DETAILS AND TO SEE OUR FULL RANGE OF BOOKS. MANY THANKS. N° de ref. de la librería
