Sinopsis:

This is a LIMITED HARDCOVER EDITION with only 500 hardcover copies produced. Each book is individually numbered and signed by the author and the collaboraters. "Out of my Shell" is, by Peter Dance is a new book by the author of "A History of Shell Collecting","Rare Shells", and co authorhed the best selling "Compendium of Seashells". Peter Says in his Forward, " For many years I have accumulated notes connected in some way or other with molluscs and their shells, intending to use them in articles or books, but most have remained unpublished in any form. Now I have edited some of them, ading occasional dashes of autobiography and some illustrations." He dscusses the forms and colours of shells and tells stories about rareites, such as the golden cowry and the glory-of-the-sea-cone. He investigates shells in fiction, shells with royal connections, and places named after shells. Striking a more sombre note, he explains how an album of shell watercolours, destined for a London auction, made him overlook 9/11, and describes how illegal Chinese immigrants died while hunting for cockles.

An entertaining assortment of photos and drawings, several of them the Author's own work, enchance the appeal to this unique book.

About the Author:

S. Peter Dance, of Carlisle,England, has studied Molluscs and man's association with them for more than 50 years. As a museum curator he has re-organised and publicised several world-famous shell collections, has travelled far and wide in search of shells, has talked about them on radio, television and on the lecture platform, and has written or edited numerous books and articles about them. His bookse include "A History of Shell Collecting", "Rare Shells", The Collector's Encyclopedia of Shells", and the best-selling "Compendium of Seashells"(co-authored with the late R. Tucker Abbott). Peter's latest book is the first fruit of a new publishing venture, instigated by Peter, Anne Joffe and Harlan E. Wittkopf. "Out of my Shell" is an appropriate launchpad for C-Shells-3 Inc., which will be devoted to publications about shells, shell artifacts and shell lore.
