Descripción

40pp., 8vo, with four plates. Paginated 1-40 (the chapter appears with the same pagination at the beginning of the second of the two volumes of the book). Bound in green buckram, with 'TASTE | OSBERT SITWELL | AND | MARGARET BARTON' stamped in gilt on front board. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper, in lightly-worn binding. Inscribed on the front free endpaper 'For Margaret Llewellyn Davies from her affectionate Margaret Barton', and with the following autograph note by Barton on a piece of paper laid down on the front pastedown: 'I am sending you our contribution to Johnson's England separately bound with Christmas Wishes. It is one of a "limited" edition of three. Dont bother to read it - it is only intended as a mark of esteem. | M. B.' There is one marginal comment by Davies in pencil. On p.30 she writes, beside the statement 'Certainly no artistic expression of it [i.e. admiration of one's surroundings] is to be discovered in England until the eighteenth century' she writes 'and Shakespeare? this is nonsense'.
