Size of the stone block: 11 3/4" x 9 1/4" x 2 1/2" (thick). With top side polished & engraved for lithographic printing. Featues 2 engraved images that appear to be for greeting cards or similar printed items. The first image is made up of wheat sheaves, field grasses & flowers (poppies, bachellor's buttons, daisies, etc.) with a small mouse crawling in the right upper area & "cabbage" butterfly visiting a flower in the lower left area; the second image is of a wreath form made up of butterflies, flowers (poppies, morning glories) & grasses, with ribbons, this form has a small black rectangle below it, labeled in ink: Tiefe (German: deep/depth), suggesting the stone was made (and possibly also used) in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. No artist/designer's name or initials are easily visible. The unfinished, left-hand side of the stone bears this stencil-printed numbering: 11 24 - 30; and the right side shows this inked numbering: 401 F. Scan shows the front of stone, with images. Overall, a well-preserved example of a lithographic stone, most likely produced in the 1900-20 period (though possibly earlier). These type of (unbroken or cracked) stones are now uncommon, many have been re-used in various ways or destroyed over the years. Sold as a example of this type of printing material.
