When Grub Street, noted publisher of aviation titles, released "From North Africa to Arakan" a special New Zealand Edition of 200 copies was also issued. This account of a RAF fighter pilot's experiences from mid-1942 to mid-1944 begins with the author's initial training in NZ, his homeland, in 1941 he travelled to England where, after further training, he was posted to 610 Squadron on Spitfires. After a few months he was transferred to 81 Squadron in North Africa with operations there, Tunisia, Malta, Sicily and Italy. By the end of 1943 81 Squadron was posted to India to join the campaigns aginst the Japanese in Arakan and Burma. After becoming ill he was repatriated to NZ where he became an instructor with the RNZAF for a short time, before being demobilised. Alan Peart's war took him to many places, into many more aerial combats and a mutitude of experiences, in the air and on the land. His score of six and one-third enemy aircraft destroyed and seven damaged included planes from each of the main adversaries, Germany, Italy and Japan.
