Each issue of St. Nicholas includes stories, often by well-known authors, as well as dozens of charming illustrations, photos, riddles, poems, letters, and non-fiction articles written for young people. Includes the likely first appearance of Jack London's first novel (prior to its publication in hardcover), 'The Cruise of the Dazzler' in an abridged form. (illustrated by M. J. Burns) on pages 784-812. One item by Kate Milner Rabb shares a facsimile copy of a letter she received as a child from 'Poet, Professor and Autocrat' Oliver Wendell Holmes. Two poems, written and illustrated by Margaret Johnson, also appear in this volume. This delightful collection of magazines provides an insight into the way of life in the US early in the 20th century. --- Overall, this hefty 6-1/2 pound book is in good shape.
