Original poster promoting the US release on Decca for the thunderous 1971 album, using the album cover's famed shot of the band walking away from a concrete piling at a spoil tip in Easington Colliery. At the beginning of the 1970s, The Who took a breather between rock operas ("Tommy" in 1969, "Quadrophenia" in 1973) to put out an album that would set the bar for all rock music that would follow in terms of sonic palette, fury, and pure songwriting greatness. But in truth "Who's Next" began as a rock opera as well, a futuristic film/concert/album project Townshend had in mind titled "Lifehouse." But the project proved intractable, leading to a falling out between Townshend and the band's producer Kit Lambert and what Townshend later describe "a near suicidal nervous breakdown."The band reconnoitered with a new producer, Glyn Johns, and started over, using scraps from "Lifehouse." Townshend toyed with synthesizers (and a Lowery organ on "Baba O'Riley"), an electronic envelope follower, and a noisemaker--not as a dominating part of the record's sound, but as more of a part of its overall sonic effect. The Who broke from the constraints of storytelling and instead focused on making maximum impact with individual songs.32 x 20 inches. Rolled, on archival linen. Near Fine.Pitchfork 100. Rolling Stone 500. N° de ref. de la librería 125089
