This is a presentation copy, inscribed and dated by the author , who was the President of the Japan American Cultural Society for many years and a member of the Japanese Diet, on the free front endpaper. Additionally, laid in is a christmas card in a mailed envelope from Japan with a personal message from the author to the person to whom the book is signed. Also included is a copy of the pamphlet " TO MY ALMA MATER THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO IN APPRECIATION " by Jiuji G. Kasai. This ~ 18 page pamphlet is inscribed and dated by the author on the front cover to the same person. It reprints a first prize oration entitled " The Mastery of the Pacific " that the author gave in 1913 at the University of Chicago as well as additional material and illustrations.
