Powers, who won the 1963 National Book Award for his novel "Morte D'Urban", and whose later novel, "Wheat that Springeth Green" was a finalist for the same award in 1988. Powers and O'Faolain admired eachother's work and they were good friends. O'Faolain was very helpful to Powers in many ways and they corresponded over the years.
