Descripción

"The Office of Criminal Investigation {OCI} is my invention. It is very loosely based on the Office of Naval Intelligence, Criminal Investigation Division. I don't know if ONI CID used the racial and gender diversity that I use in this book. I only saw ONI and CID operatives work from the outside. I decided to use the wide variety of people I did for two reasons. First, it simply makes sense [to me} for this kind of operation. It would help placing agents in better locations and make collecting the necessary data/evidence easier. Secondly, other agencies, such as the various spy networks, certainly did use more than white males as operatives. Therefore, I integrated the Office of Criminal Investigation and added women appropriately." This book has 293 pages. The book is a SIGNED PRESENTATION copy from the author, Richard Bergeron. Sinopsis:

Lt. Eric Matthews, a desk jockey at theOffice of Criminal Investigation (OCI), has been notified that he mustacquire field experience, preferably undercover, to advance any furtherwith OCI. He agrees to serve as an enlisted man aboard the USS Hestek, nicknamed the "old Haystack," to help close down a gang that not onlysells heroin to sailors in the Norfolk area, but also cuts the drug with poison and kills someone weekly.
Once aboard the Hestek, he must track a suspected drug user back to his supplier and then arrest him, even though the two become good friends.
Needle on the Haystack is not a novel about the Navy; the Navy is the setting in the samemanner as London is the setting of most Sherlock Holmes stories. It also is not just a crime novel, but a story about an officer in a newenvironment, who must overcome feelings of inadequacy and fight personal battles with his past.
The seed for this story came from an actual case witnessed by the author.
