Choice autograph addition: Tipped to the front flyleaf is a good content Autograph Note Signed from Coit, 1p, heavy stock 5½" X 3½" color picture postcard ("Art Museum and School of Fine and Applied Arts, Portland, Maine"), New York, NY, n.d. [postal cancellation 6 December 1951]. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar). Near fine. Cordial message in blue ink to a friend: "I was so glad you liked Calhoun and wanted to tell me that you did. I'm now doing Bernard Baruch, later a novel. Will you be at Historical Association meeting?" Signed boldly in full. Coit (1919-2003) won the 1951 Pulitzer Prize for Biography for her 1950 book "John C. Calhoun, Americvan Patriot.".
