Mother Teresa and her work inspired millions of people all over the World and The Author living in the lap of the Himalayas at Shim la could not have remained ineffected. Greatly motivated by Mother`s works of Charity and her devotion inspired him to write about her. Mother was sick during 1989. The people all over the world prayed for and wished her early recovery. On December 9, 1989, Shri R. Venkataraman, the first citizen and the then President of India paid a visit of Calcutta and called on the ailing Mother Teresa in a nursing home. He wished her a long and healthy life because the world needed her love. When Mother Teresa thanked him for taking the trouble to visit her Shri R. Venkataraman replied; "It was a national duty as well as a personal one". Mother Teresa a celebrity with the Nobel Prize, Bharat Ratna, the Magsaysay Award and lot of other honours is the most revered person because the work she continued doing for the poor, the destitute and the dying. Mother Teresa does not need miracles to prop up her image. As a remarkable woman-the real miracle is the work she does. Perhaps Mother Teresa has followed St. Xavier who "usually went on foot and without shoes, living only on roasted rice, which he begged as he went on; and slept on the Ground with a stone under his head;" in fact, she lived in India like an Indian ascetic; and being also an extraordinary character, she soon acquired the fame of wonder-working. It was the year ending 1989 that the author was inspired by the selfless service rendered by the Mother Teresa, to the humanity and felt like sharing and conveying the same for the fellow human beings, for the cause of goodness it self.
