A book of poetry commemorating life in the Icelandic-Canadian settlements, specifically the lives of ship captains including captains of small boats on the large Manitoba lakes. The author's real name was Nikulás Össurarson, born in the West Fjords of Iceland. He was instrumental in bringing a large group of close relatives to Canada. he lived in Winnipeg and was best known as the manager of River Park. He acquired land near Riverton in New Iceland in 1925 and lived there part time until 1933. He was a well-known "character" alluded to as "Nick Ottens" in Guttormur J. Guttormsson's satirical Icelandic-English poem "Winnipeg Icelander", and the father of Louise Ottenson who became a well-known musician and composer.
